An exhibition of paintings by SKetchers, Urban sketching group members
Sketches presents an exhibition by eleven friends who meet on a weekly basis at various locations throughout the SK postal code area to practice and share their joint love of Urban Sketching.
Urban Sketching has been popularised by Gabriel Campanario and now forms a world-wide movement with its own manifesto with the aim of drawing on location, indoors or outdoors and capturing what we see from direct observation. They tell the story of our surroundings, the places we live and where we travel. The sketches are a record of time and place and may be in any kind of media and style. Both Manchester and Macclesfield have groups that meet on a regular basis and are open to anyone to join. Sketchers support each other and draw together.
This Exhibition provides an opportunity to see sketches that whilst often shared online are mostly retained in private sketchbooks and not put on public display although some are shared through social media. Most of the works on display are as a result of being sketched and completed directly on site with many based on the Bollington and Macclesfield area.
Original work as well as prints are available to purchase. Original sketchbooks will also be on display. The artists themselves will be present and will be happy to share advice, tips and hints on Urban Sketching.
